Brave 8th Graders Shares Data from a Survey Regarding Cultural Respect and Awareness

114

A group of brave 8th graders stood before their peers to share data from a survey that was given to all 8th graders regarding cultural respect and awareness.  These students shared about the detrimental effects of allowing each other to joke and use racial slurs at school.  The speakers were also able to share from their own personal perspective how they feel when they hear insensitive language from peers and ideas on what we all can do to stop this language at school when it happens.  The presentation ended with almost 100% of students standing up to agree that they believe racism is an issue and we need to work together to promote a safe and respectful culture at school.

Speakers led by 8th grade student Kenny Malavong included: Zeqouia Tebo,  TJ. Phillips, Madelynn Bohnet, Hodhan Mohammed, Keri Miller, and Tiala Luong.  These students did an outstanding job of unifying our student body and directing all to be leaders in a positive way.
