Cardinal Activities Complex - Renovation and Planned Upgrades

Abab

Dear Friends,

The South Sioux City Community School District is breaking ground in mid-May for needed updates to the Cardinal Activity Complex located on the High School / Middle School campus.   Phase I of the renovations will include artificial turf, an eight lane running track, new LED lighting and new aluminum bleachers for the home fans.

The engineering and design of these upgrades are centered around making the Cardinal Activity Complex a premiere space for soccer, football, track, marching band and many other student activities for many years to come. The initial phase includes demolition and removal of the existing grass field, track, lighting and home bleachers. Construction on Phase I is planned to begin in the Spring of 2022 after the track and soccer seasons are over.  Home football games in the fall of 2022 will probably be played at alternate locations as the first phase isn’t scheduled to be complete until October of 2022.

The District has set aside building and depreciation funds to pay for the turf, track, lighting, and bleachers (Phase I).  The District is depending on a fund-raising campaign to enhance other aspects of the complex, so the scope of Phase II will depend on the generosity of our donors. Possible Phase II features include press box renovations, a new interactive scoreboard, visitor seating, concession stand, pavilion, plaza area, improved entrance and storage.  Click here to donate online.

The project offers many other opportunities, including the chance to host marching band competitions, conference and district events for both soccer and track. Youth football and soccer tournaments could be hosted almost year-around as the turf can endure heavy use without any recovery time between games. The ability to host more events will mean more revenue to the school, clubs, concession stands and the entire community.

The district is calling on individuals, families and businesses to support this project and help us make the entire project a reality.   As you finish out 2021 or make budgeting decisions for the future, please keep our students and this project in mind.   Donors will have the possibility to garner naming rights on the entire complex, field, pavilion, plaza or scoreboard depending on the amount of the donation and your interest.  Please contact me directly if you have any questions and/or want to visit about a donation.
