On April 8, 2022, 21 Officers from Knox County met at the Knox County Sheriff's Office Firearms Range. The weather was 32 degrees, with a 23 MPH North-Northwest wind making it feel like 19 degrees with wind chill. All the Officers qualified for the State of Nebraska qualification for handguns and those that carry a Patrol Rifle also qualified with their Patrol Rifle. This mandatory course must be passed at least once a year for officers to carry firearms and remain certified with the State of Nebraska. Cedar County Chief Deputy Chad Claussen was the Range Instructor for the day. 

On the April 13, 2022, The Knox County Sheriff's Office received a report of an assault that occurred on the evening of April 11, 2022, in Crofton, NE.  The victim, Sharon Thoene age 67, of Crofton, NE stated that her nephew, Travis Kuchta age 42, were having a verbal argument when he slapped her.  The two involved people lived in the same residence in Crofton, NE at the time of the incident.  After talking with Travis Kuchta about the incident, he was arrested on a Cedar County Warrant and transported to the Cedar County Jail.  A report has been forwarded to the Knox County Attorney.

On April 15, 2022, a Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Santee Police Officer arrested Reid Lande, 33, of Springfield SD, during a traffic stop near Standing Bear Bridge. Lande had a Cedar County Warrant for Nonresident Violation Order, No Operator’s License, and Littering 1st Offense, and was transported and released over to a Cedar County Deputy. 

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, at approximately 6pm, the Knox County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a belated break-in at 502 South Bismark in Wausa. Investigation revealed the suspect(s) used a small pry tool to gain entry into the front locked door prior to exiting the rear door. The incident occurred sometime during the daytime on Saturday. The victim also reported a similar incident on or about Tuesday, April 12th. The resident of 500 South Bismark was contacted and reported similar incidents occurring during the daytime on April 12th and 14th. Neither victim reported any items tampered with or stolen. Regardless, Wausa residents are asked to remain vigilant and aware of suspicious activity. The Knox County Sheriff's Office can be contacted at 402-288-4261 to report any possible criminal activity. 

On Saturday, April 16, 2022, at approximately 8:30pm, the Knox County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a dog bite occurring in Crofton. Investigation revealed two Yankton residents were arriving to visit a Crofton residence. At the same time, family members were leaving the Crofton residence with an unleashed dog. The medium sized dog bit the left thumb of one of the visitors, resulting in Emergency Room treatment at Avera Yankton. The Sheriff's Office asks that dog owners ensure their pets are vaccinated in accordance with state statute and aware of dog bite laws under state statute 54-601. 

On the April 17, 2022, the Knox County Sheriff's Office was requested to assist the Verdigre Fire Department at 88318 518 Ave.  Upon arrival, Glen Rudloff was standing by a small fire which he did not have a burn permit for.  The fire was extinguished by the fire department.  A report will be sent to the Knox County Attorney for the violation of burning without a permit. The state of Nebraska has a year-round burn ban and Knox County is currently in a Red Flag Warning.  If you want to burn something, you must contact your local fire department and obtain a burn permit.  Please do not burn without first obtaining a permit.
